KAMLOOPS — A teenaged Kamloops goaltender received a $25,000 scholarship for demonstrating character, leadership and a drive to succeed both off and on the ice.

The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced Griffin Seafoot as the recipient of the Champions of Tomorrow Scholarship.

Along with hockey, the CHL says Seafoot stood out for his achievements in academics and community service. In a news release issued Friday (May 1), the CHL notes Seafoot maintained an “A” average while mentoring younger players and support local minor hockey programs, and launched a school food drive at 12 years old that has since grown into a district-wide event that collected more than 10,000 lbs of food over the past four years.

Seafoot was recently accepted into Shad Canada, one of the Canada’s leading youth leadership and science, technology, engineering and mathematics programs, where he will take part this summer at St. Francis Xavier University. The CHL says Seafoot also hopes to study engineering at the University of Waterloo.
