Disney+ has secured rights to a live-action Casper the Friendly Ghost series following a competitive bidding war. Rob Letterman and Hilary Winston, who executive produce Disney+’s Goosebumps series, will helm the project alongside Steven Spielberg, who served as executive producer on the 1995 Casper movie starring Christina Ricci. Letterman will direct, executive produce, and write the series, while Winston handles writing and executive producing duties. The series is described as a “modern update on the classic ghost story” with no additional details revealed. It remains unclear whether Ricci might appear in the new series, similar to her role in Netflix’s Wednesday after starring in 1991’s The Addams Family. A previous Casper live-action series was announced for Peacock in 2022, but it’s not clear if this project is related.
