We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Victor Adolph of Xaxli’p in Lillooet, BC. Victor is survived by his wife of 45 years, Vera; his siblings Sharon, Russell, Franny, Arthur, Margret, Stephanie, Naomi and his children, Donovan, Melissa, Cass, and Regine; and his grandchildren, Shayne, Ryan, and Dylan. His children and grandchildren were the light of Victor’s life and, to him, his greatest accomplishment. Victor’s family was always his priority.

Victor was a deeply dedicated advocate for Indigenous rights, spending many years fighting for fishing rights and later passing on traditional teachings to his children and grandchildren. He will also be remembered as a hard worker and a fierce protector of workers’ rights, especially when it came to Indigenous businesses operating within their traditional territories. His work in logging took him all over BC and later inspired him to start a first aid business in Chetwynd, which led to one of his favourite jobs, providing services for Altec. For years, Altec chose to work exclusively with Victor, recognizing his passion and commitment to worker safety. His decades of hard and strenuous work eventually led to the construction of the Fountain Flat Trading Post, owned by his wife, Vera, and managed by his son-in-law, Matthew.

Victor’s close connection to animals meant he always welcomed strays into his home. He will be greatly missed by his dogs, Buddy, Callie, and Harry, and especially Kika, who was always by his side.

The family will be holding a private ceremony to celebrate the many accomplishments of Victor. We invite you to honour his memory by carrying forward the teachings and values he shared throughout his life.

We thank the dedicated staff of Lillooet Hospital, especially the nurses who cared for him in his final days; the emergency department of Royal Inland and his doctor, Dr. Humber, who went above and beyond for the family.
