Live-Action ‘FernGully’ Remake Coming From Amazon MGM Studios

Marielle Heller (A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood, Nightbitch) will write and direct a live-action adaptation of the 1992 animated film FernGully: The Last Rainforest for Amazon MGM Studios. The original movie followed magical rainforest inhabitants fighting to save their Australian home from logging and a destructive force called Hexxus. It featured voice work by Robin Williams, Tim Curry, Christian Slater and Samantha Mathis, plus songs from Elton John and Jimmy Buffett. Producer Jon Sheinberg said in a statement: “Our goal isn’t simply to make a new film. It’s to honor a timeless classic and extend its powerful themes and musical legacy across every platform.”
