Ian McKellen, Elijah Wood Officially Return For ‘The Lord Of The Rings: The Hunt For Gollum’

Warner Bros. unveiled the cast for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum at CinemaCon Tuesday, with Andy Serkis directing and reprising his role as Gollum. Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf, Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, and Lee Pace as Thranduil. New additions include Kate Winslet as Marigol, Leo Woodall as Halvard, and Jamie Dornan as Strider/Aragorn. The film chronicles the search for the corrupted Hobbit before The Fellowship of the Ring events. Original trilogy screenwriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens join Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou in adapting J.R.R. Tolkien’s material. The movie hits theaters December 17, 2027.
