Barnhartvale landfill expected to reopen Sunday after Friday fire
KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops expects to have the Barnhartvale Landfill and Yard Waste Site open as usual today, April 12, following a fire that sparked on Friday night.
The facility remained closed yesterday, but in a statement, the city said the facility at 970 Eliza Road is expected to be open between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. today, as long as conditions overnight remained stable.
“Crews are continuing to monitor the site due to lingering hot spots, with an overnight fire watch in place as a precaution, especially with wind in the forecast,” the statement issued at 6:00 p.m. Saturday said. “The affected area is well away from the public operating area and remains securely cordoned off.”
