Kamloops’ Mynio named AHL Abbotsford Canucks Rookie of the Year
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops hockey product Sawyer Mynio has earned the first major accolade of his fledgling professional hockey career.
The 20-year-old defenceman – who was eligible to return to the WHL for his 20-year-old campaign – was named the American Hockey League (AHL) Abbotsford Canucks Rookie of the Year for the 2025-26 season.
A third-round draft pick of the Vancouver Canucks, Mynio tallied three goals and 20 points in 54 AHL games, and was second in scoring among all Abbotsford defencemen. He also finished fifth in scoring among all under-21 blueliners across the AHL.
The Abbotsford Canucks won’t defend their Calder Cup triumph this spring as they sit in the basement of the Pacific Division with four road games left to play. They’ll face the Calgary Wranglers this Friday and Saturday (April 10 and 11) before closing out the season in California the following weekend.
