WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — A pair of projects intended to reduce wildfire risk in the Cariboo could begin as early as this week.

The BC Wildfire Service says a 20-hectare prescribed burn near White Road south of Williams Lake could begin as early as Thursday (April 9) and continue periodically until April 24.

In a news release issued Tuesday (April 7), the wildfire service says smoke and flames will be visible from Williams Lake, Williams Lake First Nation, Coyote Rock Golf Course and along Highway 97.

Further south, the 100 Mile House Natural Resource District and B.C.’s Ministry of Forests will burn around 12 piles of woody debris near the 99 Mile Ski and Bike Trail.
