BC Wildlife Park preparing for annual Easter extravaganza

KAMLOOPS — The BC Wildlife Park is gearing up to host its annual easter egg hunt, which will run April 3 to 6 this year.

Thousands of visitors are expected to flock to the park for the annual egg hunt, which will be held every 30 minutes. Park officials say they’ve got over 700 kilograms of chocolate to hand out this year, so there should be plenty for everyone.

“It’s just a great multi day event to kick off a season of people visiting the park,” general manager Glenn Grant said. “It’s great to see all the kids running around and collecting chocolate. The smiles, the happiness is great. People are happy to get out.”

New this year, visitors will be able to scour the park grounds and look for a golden egg, which Grant said will be hidden in a new publicly accessible location every morning before the gates open.

“It’s about six or seven inches big and when its found, its found. Whoever finds it can bring it to the guest services desk and there will be a package there waiting for them,” Grant said. “That”ll be fun. It’ll get people to explore the park more.”

Other popular attractions – like face painting, animal encounters, train rides and appearances from uncle Chris the Clown and the Easter Bunny will also be held this weekend. With temperatures in Kamloops expected to be between 16 C Friday and 21 C Monday, Grant is hoping for a strong turnout.

“The weather was a little bit hit-and-miss through spring break so attendance has been a little slow through March,” Grant said.

“Having a really great Easter weekend will boost up the attendance and the revenue. It’s just the beginning of the season and it’ll be great to put a little bit of funds in the bank because there are lots of animals to feed and the cost of that is skyrocketing just like everything else.”
