City of Kamloops tree coupons available Wednesday

KAMLOOPS — Wednesday is April 1 and the City of Kamloops says you’d be a fool not to pick up a tree coupon.

The annual program kicks off Wednesday, offering coupons at a $20 or $50 value, depending on the price of the tree the customer chooses.

Kamloops currently has a 15 per cent tree canopy. The coupons are offered in an effort to help increase that to 20 per cent.

“Urban trees provide many social, health, environmental and economic benefits, from removing atmospheric carbon dioxide and absorbing air pollutants to reducing energy consumption and increasing property values,” said City of Kamloops Greenspaces and Natural Resources Supervisor Michael Doll in a news release.

Tree coupons will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at the following locations:

There is a limit of one coupon per household, with recipients required to prove their residence within City of Kamloops boundaries by providing their address on a driver’s license of city tax or utility statement.
