The Kennedy Center confirmed Bill Maher will receive the 27th Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, despite White House officials previously calling reports about his selection “fake news.” The ceremony will take place June 28th at the Kennedy Center, with Netflix streaming the program at a later announced date. Maher has hosted HBO’s Real Time for over 20 years and previously Politically Incorrect for a decade. He received 42 Emmy nominations and won in 2014 as executive producer of VICE. The Mark Twain Prize generated $5.2 million for the Kennedy Center in fiscal 2024 through corporate sponsorship and streaming deals. Previous recipients include comedians like Richard Pryor, Whoopi Goldberg, and Conan O’Brien. (Story URL)
