KCBIA ‘in transition’ as search underway for new executive director

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Central Business Improvement Association (KCBIA) is looking for a new executive director as the organization “looks ahead to its next chapter.”

In a statement sent to members, which was later shared with CFJC Today, the KCBIA Board confirmed that Howie Reimer is longer executive director, though a reason for his departure was not provided.

“The Board of Directors extends its sincere appreciation to Howie Reimer for his years of dedication, service, and contributions to the KCBIA and to downtown Kamloops,” the KCBIA statement said, noting this change in leadership aligns with the recent renewal of the KCBIA’s five‑year levy.

“[It] supports the organization’s continued focus on fostering a vibrant, resilient, and economically thriving downtown,” the KCBIA statement added. “It also creates an opportunity to welcome a new Executive Director who will work alongside members, partners, and the community as downtown Kamloops continues to grow and evolve.”

Reimer had been the KCBIA’s executive director for the past four years. He took over in early 2022, after former executive director Carl DeSantis announced plans to step aside.

Jeremy Heighton, the executive director of the North Shore Business Improvement Association, has been named acting KCBIA executive director. Heighton, who is also president of the Business Improvement Areas Association of BC, is tasked with supporting the transition of responsibilities at the KCBIA.

“The Board and staff remain fully committed to advancing the priorities of the downtown business community,” the KCBIA statement added. “The organization is well positioned to continue its important work and to support members through the opportunities ahead.”
