KAMLOOPS — Environment Canada has issued a wind warning for the Kamloops area with gusts of up to 90 km/h predicted on Friday (March 20).

The warning is in place for the South Thompson, Shuswap, and Nicola areas as well as the Merritt to Kamloops section of the Coquihalla as well as the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna.

“A strong frontal system crossing the interior on Friday will bring strong southwesterly winds gusting to 70 to 90 km/h,” the weather agency said. “Winds will weaken below warning criteria Friday evening but remain gusty.”

Environment Canada is urging recreational boaters to be prepared for sudden wind gusts on area lakes.
