UPDATE: Snowfall warnings neded in Cariboo, North Thompson and Shuswap

KAMLOOPS — (UPDATE 1:15 p.m.): Environment Canada has lifted the snowfall warnings that were in place for the Shuswap and the North Thompson.

UPDATE 10:15 a.m. — Snowfall warnings are still in effect for the North Thompson and the Shuswap, though it has been lifted for the Cariboo and the North Okanagan.

“A frontal system combined with cool air is bringing significant snow to the region,” the updated warning said. “Snowfall accumulations reached 5 to 15 cm Sunday night with another 5 to 10 cm forecast this morning.”

“The snow will turn to rain later this morning as temperatures warm.”

A wind warning remains in effect for the Fraser Canyon with gusts of up to 90 km/h expected today before winds ease slightly by Tuesday morning.

EARLIER — Snowfall warnings are in place for multiple regions in B.C.’s interior Monday (March 16) morning. 

Environment Canada says around 10 to 15 centimetres of snow is expected for the Cariboo, North Thompson and Shuswap regions through Monday morning. 

It’s due to a frontal system passing through the interior. The weather agency says snow will turn to rain by late Monday morning or early in the afternoon as temperatures rise. 

“Travel will likely be challenging. Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will likely be reduced at time,” Environment Canada said.

Elsewhere, a wind warning is in effect for the Fraser Canyon with gusts of up to 90 km/h expected this afternoon with the winds expected to ease slightly by Tuesday morning. 

The weather agency warns that local utility outages are possible, and they’re urging people to secure all loose objects. People are also being told to watch for flying or falling debris and to adapt their driving for changing conditions.
