Dirt bike rider killed in collision on Highway 8 near Lower Nicola

MERRITT, B.C. — A dirt bike rider has died after a collision on Highway 8 near Lower Nicola.

At around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (March 3), Merritt RCMP say they were told of a collision between a dirt bike and an SUV.

In a news release issued Wednesday morning, RCMP say the rider succumbed to their injuries despite lifesaving measures taken by the first responders. The driver of the SUV was treated for minor injuries on scene.

Police say the stretch of Highway 8 was closed to allow the RCMP’s Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service to examine the scene. DriveBC says Highway 8 between Aberdeen Road and Marshall Road reopened shortly after 3:00 a.m. Wednesday.
