Environment Canada expecting warm start to March in Kamloops after warm and dry February

KAMLOOPS — The cold grasp of winter has continued to elude the city of Kamloops as February concludes a few degrees higher than usual.

February 2026 will officially enter the record books as the 15th warmest in history for the Kamloops area, with a mean temperature of 2.4 C, more than two degrees above the normal of -0.2 C.

“There was a shot of cold air that did come through the Kamloops region, which did drop temperatures down as low as -12.7 C in Kamloops,” said Environment Canada Meteorologist Colin Fong. “But it was a short lived event over two to three days. Otherwise, temperature were above normal which is why overall we did have a pretty warm month in February.”

“But as warm as the month was overall, Kamloops itself did not break any daytime daily temperature records.”

Kamloops saw just 6 mm of precipitation last month, which is about half of what is considered normal for the second month of the year. It wasn’t close to a record though, as Fong said this past February was the 24th driest on record.

By comparison, January 2026 was the sixth driest month on record in Kamloops dating back to 1891. Looking further ahead, Environment Canada is forecasting a mild beginning to March.

“We are looking at above normal temperatures at least to kick of the start of March,” added Fong. “And in this time we are likely to see a mix of flurries and rain showers, but with the rain shadow, we are not really expecting anything too impactful at least with amounts.”
