COLLINS: The NDP is kind of a wolf in sheep’s clothing

THE NDP’s BUDGET LAST WEEK was a cruel, heartless abandonment of the working man – the group who normally support the NDP. Did they get screwed over? You bet they did.

Essentially, the government stopped operating the province, and provided no support and direction. And at the end of the day, Premier David Eby, recognizing he had no money left to work with, simply gave up and went home.

Anything that had dollars attached to it was put on pause. Housing projects worth millions are going to stand idle. That includes all manner of supportive housing, medical facilities, long-term care facilities – itʼs a long list. Thousands of workers laid off in the public service, increased income taxes – and even with all these cutbacks, it will still be years before there’s any hope of a return to a balanced budget.

It’s sad to see how far we have fallen from a ‘have’ to a ‘have not’ province, and I fear we have another fall yet before we hit the bottom.
