Actor Eric Dane died Thursday following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), his family announced. The 53-year-old was best known as Dr. Mark Sloan on Grey’s Anatomy and Cal Jacobs on Euphoria. Diagnosed with ALS in 2025, Dane spent his final days with his wife and daughters Billie and Georgia. His family stated he “became a passionate advocate for awareness and research, determined to make a difference for others facing the same fight.” Born in San Francisco in 1972, Dane began acting in the 1990s with small television roles before joining Grey’s Anatomy in 2005. He later starred in TNT’s The Last Ship and HBO’s Euphoria.
