KAMLOOPS — Police in Kamloops are asking for help as they investigate a suspicious incident over the weekend involving a youth who was approached by a man in a truck downtown.

Police say the incident happened around 2:20 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 15) afternoon in the 700-block of Victoria Street downtown. They say a man in a black Dodge pickup truck offered the youth a ride.

According to police, the youth declined the offer and called a safe adult after going into a nearby business.

“No licence plate was observed, but the truck did have scratch on the back like it had been keyed,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier said. “The man was described as Indigenous with a grey beard with black hair and eventually drove to a parking lot in the 450-block of Landsdowne Street.”

Napier says Kamloops RCMP are asking people to review personal safety with their children. They say to remind them to be aware of their surrounding, that its okay to say no and to not engage with people you don’t know, and to plan ahead so they know what to do if approached.

People with information or video that may help identify the vehicle or the driver are asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment at 250-828-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 1800-222-8477 (TIPS) and cite file 2026-4784.
