Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood is demanding that his Oscar-nominated Phantom Thread score be pulled from the new Melania Trump documentary after its unauthorized use. In a joint statement shared on Monday (Feb. 9), Greenwood and Phantom Thread director Paul Thomas Anderson wrote: “It has come to our attention that a piece of music from Phantom Thread has been used in the ‘Melania‘ documentary. While Jonny Greenwood does not own the copyright in the score, Universal failed to consult Jonny on this third-party use which is a breach of his composer agreement. As a result, Jonny and Paul Thomas Anderson have asked for it to be removed from the documentary.” The Brett Ratner-directed Melania documentary incorporates portions of Greenwood’s music from Anderson’s film alongside other modern artists including Michael Jackson‘s “Billie Jean” and The Rolling Stones‘ “Gimme Shelter.”
