Canada’s women’s hockey team tops Switzerland 4-0; Maltais reaches podium
MILAN — Canada opened its Olympic women’s hockey title defence with a 4-0 win over Switzerland.
Sarah Fillier, Natalie Spooner and Julia Gosling scored power-play goals and Daryl Watts struck even strength for Canada.
“I thought our power play was working well tonight, and it’s something we still need to keep building on, but I think it’s a good start for the tournament,” Spooner said.
Switzerland was scheduled to be Canada’s second opponent of the Milan Cortina Games. However, Canada’s original opener — on Thursday against Finland — was rescheduled to Feb. 12 because of multiple cases of the norovirus among the Finns.
