Pickup Trucks Being Targeted

RCMP believe thief is targeting older pickup trucks in the Shuswap

SALMON ARM, B.C. — RCMP believe a thief is targeting a specific model of vehicles in the Shuswap. 

At around 8:25 a.m. on Jan. 15, Salmon Arm RCMP say a man reported that his white 2006 Ford F-350 pickup truck had been stolen from his home sometime over the previous 24 hours. 

According to police, all of the man’s keys were accounted for, and no one had permission to use his truck. There were no witnesses or surveillance video available. 

In a news release issued Thursday (Jan. 29), Salmon Arm RCMP say they’ve seen an increase in stolen trucks and believe someone is targeting early 2000s model pickup trucks. 

Residents are encouraged to use an alarm system, kill switch, immobilizer, steering wheel lock and tire lock. Additionally, residents are encouraged to use a GPS tracking device or place a Bluetooth tracker, such as an AirTag, Chipolo, SmartTag or Tile, in a discreet location.
