The Recording Academy announced that Ms. Lauryn Hill will perform during the “In Memoriam” segment at this Sunday’s Grammy Awards, paying tribute to the late D’Angelo and Roberta Flack. D’Angelo, a four-time Grammy winner, died in October at age 51. Flack, who died last February at age 88, won four competitive Grammys during her career, while receiving 14 nominations in total. Notably, she won Record of the Year in consecutive years for “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” (1973) and “Killing Me Softly with His Song” (1974). Flack also received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020. Hill’s group, Fugees, received a Grammy in 1996 for a remake of Flack’s “Killing Me Softly.” At the 1996 MTV Movie Awards, Flack and the Fugees memorably performed the song together. Additional memorial performances include Post Malone, Slash, Duff McKagan, and Chad Smith honoring the late Ozzy Osbourne, while Reba McEntire will join Brandy Clark and Lukas Nelson to recognize “some of the musical icons” who died in the past year.
