YANKEE FLATS, B.C. — Two seniors are dead after a fire tore through a modified recreational vehicle in the Yankee Flats area, between Vernon and Salmon Arm, over the weekend.

In a statement, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) said firefighters from the Silver Creek and Falkland departments responded to the fire around 8:30 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 24) night, and arrived to find the structure fully involved.

According to the CSRD, firefighters worked to ensure the blaze did not extend past the structure, which had been “modified with construction add-ons.”

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of these two people. The hearts of all our firefighters go out to their family and friends. They are in our thoughts, and we share in their grief,” CSRD Regional Fire Chief Sean Coubrough said in a statement.
