ASPEN, COLO. — Clearwater’s Brett Turcotte has won his fourth X Games gold medal as snowmobile events returned to the action sports competition for the first time since 2020.

The 37-year-old Turcotte won gold in the snowmobile freestyle in Aspen, Colorado on Friday (Jab. 23), giving him nine career X Games medals.

“Got a gold medal around my neck again,” Turcotte is quoted as saying in a story by The Aspen Times. “And just grateful for the opportunity to be back.”

Snowmobile freestyle features eight riders who are tasked with executing as many tricks as possible during two, 75-second runs. Turcotte’s first run scored a 93.33, while his second scored 89.33.

“I’m just grateful for the opportunity to be back, the six long years of not competing,” Turcotte said in a story by The Aspen Daily News. “I tried to find something to fill the void. I just couldn’t quite dig in and find it. … To be able to come back and go out on top, on the podium, you can’t beat that feeling.”

Cody Matechuk, from Cochrane, Alta., was second in snowmobile freestyle with a score of 92.00 in his second run, while American Willie Elam was third with score of 90.33.

Turcotte has four gold, four silver, and one bronze medal across five different snowmobile and snow bike disciplines at the X Games.

He also won gold in the snow bike best trick in 2020, and two golds – snowmobile freestyle and snowmobile speed and style – in 2018. He won two silvers – snowmobile freestyle and snow bike best trick – in 2019, silver in snowmobile best trick in 2017, silver in Snocross in 2008, and bronze in snowmobile freestyle in 2016.

Turcotte will compete in Sunday’s snowmobile speed and style final as the top seed following a Saturday afternoon seeding session where he finished in first place with a score of 88.
