Mark McMorris, Laurie Blouin headline Canada’s Olympic snowboard team

WHISTLER — Mark McMorris and Laurie Blouin are among the six athletes that have been named to Canada’s Olympic snowboard slopestyle and big air team.

They will be joined by Eli Bouchard, Francis Jobin, Juliette Pelchat and Cameron Spalding.

McMorris, from Regina, will be making his fourth Olympic appearance in Italy in February. The 32-year-old has won bronze in each of the past three Winter Games in the men’s slopestyle event.

“It’s incredibly special to be representing Canada at my fourth Olympic Winter Games. Every time I get the opportunity to wear the maple leaf on the Olympic stage, it means a lot, and I’m grateful to still be competing at a level where I can do that,” said McMorris.

“Being one of the veterans on the team now is something I really embrace — sharing my experience, helping guide the younger riders, and trying to set the standard both on and off the hill. It feels like a full-circle moment, and I’m proud to be part of this team.”

Blouin is set to make her third Olympic appearance. The 29-year-old from Quebec City won silver in the women’s slopestyle at the 2018 Olympics and is currently seventh in the World Snowboard points list.

Spalding, Bouchard, Jobin and Pelchat will all be debutants in Italy.

Spalding, from Havelock, Ont., won the FIS Crystal Globe in snowboard slopestyle for the 2024-25 season following his victories at two World Cup stops. The 20-year-old is currently ranked seventh in the World Snowboard points list.

Reigning slopestyle world champion Liam Brearley, who had pre-qualified for the Canadian Olympic team based on his results in 2025, will not compete after sustaining an injury that required surgery.
