Kamloops RCMP arrest two suspects after pair of recent suspicious fires
KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP say they’ve arrested two people in connection with a pair of recent suspicious fires in the Mount Paul Industrial Park and near the Halston Bridge.
Police say the two people — a man and a woman — were taken into custody Wednesday (Jan. 14) afternoon. The pair are accused of starting a fire after they broke into a secure compound in the 700-block of Athabasca Street early Wednesday (Jan. 7) morning. Police previously said the pair also stole approximately $4,000 worth of tools from a storage facility on site.
In a statement Thursday (Jan. 15), RCMP said the man was set to make a court appearance Thursday afternoon, as they allege he also started a fire at a business in the 600-block of Kingston Avenue, near the Halston Bridge, on Sunday (Jan. 11) afternoon.
“These crimes were prioritized given the risk to the public. By applying a multi-jurisdictional lens to offenders and with the help of the public, we were able to utilize our Crime Reduction Unit to quickly locate and take into custody the persons we believe responsible for these reckless acts,” said Kamloops RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley in the statement.
