Wood stove suspected source of Dallas fire Monday

KAMLOOPS – A fire in the Dallas area was extinguished by Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) Monday morning (Jan. 12). Crews were called to a house in the 5,000 block of Todd Hill Crescent and KFR says there are no injuries to report.

“It looks like it started in a wood stove in the detached garage. We got a report just after 10:30 a.m. for a detached garage with smoke coming from the roof line,” Kamloops Fire Rescue Platoon Chief Jim Gorman, told CFJC.

“We had a response of four engines and a rescue truck with about 20 members. Guys arrived on scene, found some heavy smoke coming from the roof area out of the structure. There were a lot of flames inside due to some chemicals and gasoline. We just chose to do defensive attacks on the outside.”

Crews remained on scene for two-and-a-half hours to mop up. Fire investigators say arson is not the cause of this fire.

“They did an investigation. They figure it started in the chimney of the wood stove. There were no other ignition points in the building and the homeowner did say he was using his wood stove that day,” added Gorman.
