Trans-Canada to close east of Revelstoke for avalanche control work Saturday

REVELSTOKE, B.C. — (UPDATE Jan. 10): The Trans-Canada Highway will be temporarily closed east of Revelstoke this Saturday (Jan. 10) morning for avalanche control work.

According to DriveBC, the closure between Revelstoke and Glacier National Park is now expected to last until 2:00 p.m. this afternoon, instead of 12:30 p.m. as previously envisioned.

The closure will be in effect for a 21 km stretch of Highway 1 between Woolsey Creek Bridge and Hemlock Grove Boardwalk.

This is the latest in a series of closures for avalanche control work in the Rogers Pass area and drivers are being warned that there is no detour available.

As of publishing, Saturday’s avalanche danger rating between Revelstoke and Golden is considerable in the alpine and treeline, and moderate below the treeline. The alpine danger rating in the Rogers Pass area Saturday is considerable, while the danger rating is moderate in and below the treeline.

All three zones have a considerable avalanche danger rating for Sunday, while the Sunday’s alpine danger ratings in the Rogers Pass area is high.
