Multi-vehicle incident snarls traffic on Highway 5 south of Clearwater

Jan 7, 2026 | 8:36 AM

UPDATE (12:00 p.m.): Highway 5 south of Clearwater has partially reopened to single-lane-alternating traffic.

Drivers are told to expect minor delays. Another update is due at 1:00 p.m.

Speaking to CFJC Today, Clearwater RCMP detachment commander Sgt. Grant Simpson says a semi-truck jackknifed on the highway due to extremely icy and slippery conditions. From there, an Argo truck and a garbage bin truck were unable to stop and crashed into the semi. A second semi-truck then crashed into the garbage bin truck.

Simpson says two patients were sent to hospital with minor injuries. No criminality is suspected.

Simpson adds that Argo Road Maintenance has since heavily sanded the area to address slippery conditions.
