“Forget me not for I am there… Please have gentle thoughts of me.” – Louise Gifford
With gentle hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Louise Gifford on October 30, 2025 at the age of 89. Louise was born on January 5, 1936 in Simmie, Saskatchewan, beginning a life marked by warmth, resilience, and a devotion to those she loved.
Louise is lovingly remembered by her sons Barry (Lisa), Derek (Quan), and Steven (Kristina), and her cherished grandchildren: Kassia, Shayla, Sean, Stori, Alex, and Cole. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jimmy, whose memory she held close throughout her life.
Louise’s formative years in Simmie shaped her generous spirit and appreciation for the simple joys of prairie living. In Calgary, fate brought her together with Jimmy, her soulmate, sparking a partnership rooted in laughter, friendship, and enduring support.
Louise and Jimmy’s journey led them westward, settling in Kamloops, British Columbia, where they built a loving home and raised their family. Throughout her life, Louise held various jobs, each one approached with integrity and kindness, reflecting her steadfast work ethic and care for others.
First and foremost, Louise was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her home was a sanctuary where love flourished, and she nurtured her children and grandchildren with thoughtful guidance, open arms, and endless encouragement. Family gatherings, holidays, and quiet afternoons were all made special by her gentle presence and infectious laughter.
Louise’s life was enriched by a love of music; her piano playing filled rooms with melody and comfort. She enjoyed spirited games of tennis, delighted in crafting delicious meals for family and friends, and tended her garden with patience and pride. A keen birdwatcher, Louise found joy in nature’s wonders, and her poetry captured the beauty she found in everyday moments.
In her final years at Pine Grove Lodge, Louise was surrounded by caring staff and newfound friendships. She brought light and warmth to those around her, sharing stories, laughter, and wisdom. The compassionate care she received allowed her time to reflect, write, and appreciate the life she had created.
Louise leaves behind a legacy of steadfast love, creative expression, and quiet strength. Her poetry, memories, and the lessons she shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Family and friends will remember her for the comfort she gave and the beauty she saw in everyone she met.
As we gather in remembrance, may we honour Louise’s words: “Forget me not for I am there. In the summer breeze whispering through the trees, or maybe a hawk – swooping high in the sky or a butterfly flitting, landing on a flower quietly. Please have gentle thoughts of me.” Her spirit remains woven into our lives, a reminder of the enduring power of love, music, and kindness.
