KAMLOOPS — Kamloops got treated to a white Christmas this year, with snow coming down before and after the big day.

But as families sat inside, the city of Kamloops was out working to clear the streets, sidewalks and bus stops of snow and ice. The main arterial roads and connectors throughout the city are mostly down to bare pavement, but work remains on residential side streets.

“We do have crews on that work right through,” said Joe Luison, the City of Kamloops’ civic operations assistant director and public works divisional manager. “Side roads and locals is where they are at right now trying to focus. With the cold weather of course you don’t get a lot of melt on those, so it goes to compact. we do have a warming trend coming in in the upcoming days, which will definitely help out.”

As the city awaits temperatures returning to plus territory, they are playing a waiting game on snow blowing, a technique they utilize to widen roads as snow gets pushed up along the sides.

“We do have snow blowing routes where we remove a lot of that snow, but with the warming trend what we will do is we will wait that out over the next couple days and see where that takes us,” said Luison. “And from there judge if we have to get back out there to remove anymore snow or if it takes care of the majority for us then we will wait for the next snowfall.”
