Snowfall warning issued for North Thompson, Shuswap, Fraser Canyon

CLEARWATER, B.C. — (UPDATE 4:30p.m.): A snowfall warning is effect for the North Thompson, with Environment Canada calling for between 10 and 20 cm to fall, starting on Christmas Day evening.

“An approaching frontal system will track across southern B.C. later today,” the warning said. “Snow will begin overnight (Thursday, Dec. 25) before easing early Friday evening.”

The warning is also in effect for the North Columbia, Kinbasket, West Columbia and the Trans-Canada Highway between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass.

A separate snowfall warning has also been issued for the Fraser Canyon with between 10 and 15 cm of snow expected to fall on Boxing Day.

Snow is expected to begin Friday morning, with accumulations of about 10 to 15 cm before tapering off in the evening'” the warning said.

Residents and travellers are being warned that roads and walkways may likely be difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow.

“Visibility will likely be reduced at times,” Environment Canada added. “Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating conditions and allow extra time for travel.”
