Abduction report that triggered North Shore police chase found non-credible: Kamloops RCMP

KAMLOOPS — The driver of the Dodge Ram pickup involved in a police chase on the North Shore remains in custody.

Just after 7:00 p.m. Monday, Kamloops RCMP say they received a report of a potential abduction and were given a license plate number and vehicle description.

In a news release issued Tuesday (Dec. 23) morning, RCMP say officers attempted to carry out a traffic stop on the North Shore after spotting the vehicle. However, the truck then reportedly drove away and collided with a police vehicle.

Police opted to pursue the truck given the “high-risk nature of the call.”

“Police Dog Services was requested to assist,” Cpl. Dana Napier, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson says. “When it was safe, contact was made with a police vehicle and the suspect vehicle which resulted in demobilizing the truck and damaging a police cruiser.”

While all three occupants of the truck were arrested, RCMP say the abduction report was found to be not credible. One of the occupants was sent to hospital for assessment, then released.

RCMP say the investigation is ongoing, and charge recommendations are expected for the driver.
