KAMLOOPS – The B-100 Toy House campaign is wrapping up and organizers say this year has been one of the biggest ones in the campaign’s history.

“I’ve been doing this for nine years, and it is one of the best feelings I have ever experienced to be able to give back to the community in such an impactful way,” said Kayla Derkach, the Toy House campaign organizer and B-100 radio host.

“The community here has stepped up to support families in need, children in need during a very hard season where they have to choose between rent or presents,”

Vehicles loaded with Christmas gifts dropped them off at Christmas Amalgamated, where people in need of gifts can get them.

Christmas Amalgamated predicts over 1,400 people will need extra help with gifts and food this year.

“Families really deserve to have Christmas. It does not matter whether they’re financially solid or not. They should be able to celebrate just the same as each other,” said Sally Whitson, the coordinator of Christmas Amalgamated.

“This is a community that is so generous and does such a good job of making sure that the people who need help get help.”

Whitson told CFJC she loves seeing the joy brought by the toys, helping families feel comfortable for Christmas.

“Mostly when I see people who are really happy with what they’re receiving, and it makes their Christmas something to be excited about again,” added Whitson.

Derkach said organizers of the Toy House campaign are overjoyed with the nine businesses that have taken part this year.

“It’s really amazing to see something continue to grow each year because the community sees that there’s a need. I believe that this year we have the most local businesses supporting the Toy House campaign,” Derkach said.
