KAMLOOPS — (UPDATE Dec. 19): Drivers along Tranquille Road in Kamloops are being reminded to watch their speedometers as speed limits are set to be lowered along a section in Brocklehurst this Friday (Dec. 19).

According to the city, the speed limit on Tranquille Road between Cambridge Crescent and Airport Road will be reduced from 60 km/h to 50 km/h. The change will mean there is a consistent 50 km/h speed limit on Tranquille Road from the Overlanders Bridge to Kamloops Airport.

The exception is the stretch of Tranquille Road around Our Lady of Perpetual Help School, where a 30 km/h speed limit is in effect between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on school days.

“This change will help create a more consistent and safer driving experience,” the City of Kamloops said in a statement. “Maintaining a steady 50 km/h limit will reduce confusion caused by frequent speed changes over a short distance.”

In a subsequent statement, the city said Tranquille Road between Crestline Street and Southill Street will re-open to regular traffic by end of day Friday (Dec. 19) as crews take a break for the winter

Crews are set to resume working between Downie Street and Southill Street in early March.

It’s not clear why the reduced speed limit was moved up to this year as the initial plan was to go lower speeds on Tranquille Road between Crestline Street and Southill Street from 60 km/h to 50 km/h next fall once the entire sewer main project was completed.

“Transit will continue detouring via Young Avenue [this winter], with temporary stops remaining in place,” the city noted. “Crews will resume work in early 2026, focusing on sidewalks, the multi-use pathway, streetlighting, retaining walls, and driveways, as well as beginning work eastward towards Southill Street.”
