Separate outages knock out power to thousands in the Shuswap

CELISTA AND SICAMOUS, B.C. — UPDATE: BC Hydro says the North Shuswap outage ended at 1:00 p.m.

EARLIER: A large portion of the Shuswap is without power Wednesday morning (Dec. 17) due to two separate incidents.

According to BC Hydro, an outage in the North Shuswap was first reported during the 6:00 a.m. hour.

It affects 1,719 customers, stretching from Celista in the west to St. Ives in the east.

As of mid-morning, a crew was on site investigating the cause and the utility hopes to have power restored by 3:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Another outage has knocked out power to 674 customers along the Trans Canada Highway corridor from Sicamous east to Three Valley Gap.

That outage happened at about 7:40 a.m.

A crew is en route to that incident to investigate the cause. It is expected to arrive at about 12:30 p.m.
