High streamflow advisory in effect for Coldwater River, South Thompson basin

KAMLOOPS — A pair of high streamflow advisories are in effect for the South Thompson River basin and the Coldwater River. 

In a statement issued Tuesday (Dec. 9), B.C.’s Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship says a series of atmospheric rivers are impacting B.C. this week. 

The province says temperatures are expected to rise on Wednesday. While initial precipitation is expected to fall as snow, a transition to rain and melting snow is possible. 

“Significant flood hazard is not expected, however localized high flows, particularly in lower elevation creeks and smaller watersheds is possible,” the province states. 

The province adds heavy rain and high streamflow increase the risk for unstable banks, river erosion, submerged roads, swift water hazards, flooding and landslides.
