Highway 1 to temporarily close east of Revelstoke due to avalanche control work
REVELSTOKE, B.C. — The Trans-Canada Highway will be temporarily closed for 10 hours between Revelstoke and Golden for avalanche control work, which is expected to get underway this afternoon.
The closure is expected to begin at 3:00 p.m. Monday (Dec. 8), though DriveBC says eastbound commercial vehicles will be held in Malakwa starting at 2:00 p.m. Eastbound passenger vehicles will be allowed to bypass the area and proceed towards Revelstoke using the frontage road and detour signs.
The highway is expected to reopen at 1:00 a.m. Tuesday morning, and an update is expected at midnight.
According to Avalanche Canada, the avalanche danger rating for most of the area between Revelstoke and Golden is at level four on a scale of one-to-five in the alpine and tree line levels, and at level three below the tree line for Monday and Tuesday.
