KAMLOOPS — The TRU WolfPack basketball teams are going into the Canada West holiday break on a winning note.

The WolfPack men snapped a four game losing streak with an comfortable 90-69 win over the UNBC Timberwolves at the TCC Friday (Dec. 5) night.

Jayden Stephens and Jaeden Bynoe led the way with 19 points each as the WolfPack picked up their eighth win of the season. Kamloopsian Cason Scott added 11 points, while Dami Farinloye chipped in with 10.

“We talked about the importance of playing for 40 minutes and putting together a complete game and the guys did that, they got off to a really good start and competed for 40 minutes,” WolfPack head coach Chad Jacobson said.

“That was probably the first game that we actually played for 40 minutes in a long time and it was just a really good effort.”

The WolfPack men, who began the season 7-0, are currently third in the Pacific Division with an 8-4 record.

“I think big picture we are happy with the start,” Jacobson added, noting the team is moving in the right direction.

“There are some games looking back that we would like the chance to go back and play again but at the end of the day it’s been our goal from day one to keep getting better and play our best basketball come February.”

The WolfPack women were led by third-year guard Sydney Vollrath as they beat the Timberwolves 74-50.

Vollrath fired in a career high 28 points and went seven of nine from three-point range to tie the record for fourth-most points in WolfPack history.

Morgan Eichenberger dropped a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds while Olena Vasylenko added five points and eight assists.

“We really stuck to the scheme tonight, we executed the plan offensively and defensively. I think our fast break offence and ball pressure defence really led the way,” Vollrath said post-game.

This was the TRU women’s largest margin of victory since an 87-61 win over UBCO in 2018. They’re also emerging from a challenging spell as this is the first time they’ve won five games before the winter break since the 2019-20 season.

The WolfPack basketball teams are off until Jan. 9, 2026 when they host the UBCO Heat at the TCC. The women hit the court at 5:30 p.m that Friday followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.
