Thomas Clifford Swain

Posted Dec 1, 2025 | 4:27 PM

March 10, 1949 — November 9, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Thomas (Tom) Clifford Swain. Dad peacefully passed away on November 9, 2025, at the age of 76 surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Tom is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lorraine, undeniably the love of his life; his children, Corey (Cindy), Kathy (Scott), Chris (Ryah); his grandchildren, Bailey (Taylor), Brandon, Megan, and Carly; and his precious great-granddaughter Mila.

Tom was born on March 10, 1949, in Kamloops, BC to Wilfred and Vera Swain. One of 10 siblings, his loyalty to family was instilled in him at a very early age. Spending his entire life living in Kamloops and Savona, he built lifelong friendships that meant the world to him, and he was always proud of his family name. Dad loved to tell stories of his youth, such as sitting on the hill above Mission Flats daily watching the building of the Overlander Bridge, becoming rivals with the kids on the other side of town once they moved to the North Shore and blocking each other on each end of the bridge, and numerous tales of the infamous Swain boys and their notoriety in Kamloops. This always gave us kids a sense of pride and wonder as Dad was the biggest teddy bear we knew.

Dad met his “Peanut”, Lorraine Rampone, at Norkam Secondary School in 1967; their love story is truly out of a fairy tale. Mom and Dad married on March 30, 1968, and on that day, Dad was warmly welcomed into his second family. Dad was a pillar of strength, and dedicated his life to creating a loving and supportive home. Family days at Riverside Park, camping trips, poker nights with his friends, bingo with mom, floating on Kamloops Lake, lending a helping hand to everyone he knew, and spending every waking moment with his grandchildren brought pure joy to Dad. You couldn’t find a prouder Papa in the world. He cherished family gatherings, and his presence brought warmth and joy to those around him. His stories, advice, friendship, and warm hugs will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.

One of Dad’s true passions in his life was stock car racing. In the ’60s, along with his brothers Doug and Ken, and brother-in-law, Vern, he drove a ’55 Pontiac in numerous races in the Kamloops area. He became a legend during this time, holding the record at Schiedam Flats, and his love of classic cars continued throughout his life. Dad was able to purchase a 53 Ford earlier this year and, because of this, his life was full. He spent hours polishing his baby and taking mom for memory tours around Kamloops. He would burst with pride talking about his hot rod with everyone he saw.

His unwavering love for our mother while she has battled dementia is a true display of his love, resilience, and integrity. His dedication to making her smile every day of their marriage will live on in our memories.

A special Celebration of Life is being planned for the Spring of 2026.

“When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.”
