KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Storm have made it to the top of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League’s (KIJHL) latest power rankings after a perfect November.

The Storm extended their win streak to 10 games with wins over the Williams Lake Mustangs on Friday (Nov. 28) and the 100 Mile House Wranglers on Saturday (Nov. 29).

The 18-4-1-0 Storm lead the KIJHL standings by three points at roughly the halfway stage of the 44-game regular season.

They began their ascent to the top of the KIJHL power rankings in week nine, when they were slotted in third place. They climbed into second place the following week and made it to first place in week 11.

The Storm also cracked the top-5 in week five when they were slotted in at second place, but they dropped out the following week.

“I think this year, it’s championship or bust,” Storm forward Teghan Mullin told CFJC last week. “The last couple of years, we’ve been so close. But this year, I just feel that we have that extra kick. Everything is rolling now.”

Mullin, an 18-year-old from Kamloops, leads the Storm with 17 goals this season. He’s also tied with fellow 18-year-old Kamloopsian Luca D’Amore for the team scoring lead with 34 points.

“It’s good to be relied on more this year,” added defenceman Kieran Thibault, who is also an 18-year-old from Kamloops. “It’s good for the local boys that are 18 to help this team.”

“I think we’ve got what it takes to get a ‘ship.”

The Storm have five games scheduled in December, beginning with a Tuesday (Dec. 2) game in 100 Mile House. They’ll also host their teddy bear toss game this Saturday (Dec. 6) when the 16-3-1 Kelowna Chiefs stop by McArthur Island.
