KAMLOOPS — Tkemlúps te Secwépemc (TteS) has a signed a letter of expectations (LOE) with the Tkemlúps Rural RCMP Detachment as it works on a plan to address five priority areas, one which is mental health and substance use.

The band announced the agreement in a post on its website, which said the other priority areas include youth, elders, community relations and visibility, as well as traffic and bylaw enforcement/education.

“TteS would like to acknowledge CPL Darwin Robbins for his ongoing leadership and support in assessing the past LOE, making recommendations to the various focus areas and getting the document to the finish line,” Tkwenem7íple7 (Councillor) Vicki Manuel said.

“In addition, I would like to thank Supt. Jeff Pelley, Sgt. Del Bryron and Sgt. Darren Durnin for their participation and input.”

Manuel said each of those priority areas identify further areas of focus. She listed the establishment of a TteS Crisis Response Team, workshops on crime prevention and safety for elders, as well as getting more Tkemlúps youth to participate in the RCMP Youth Academy as examples.

Manuel said a meet and greet between TteS membership and RCMP brass will be held in the early spring so that two groups can “share a meal, share some stories, and just get to know who is supporting our community in safety.”
