WolfPack basketball teams beaten in Abbotsford

ABBOTSFORD — The TRU WolfPack basketball teams were left wanting in the Fraser Valley as they were both beaten by the UFV Cascades Friday (Nov. 28).

The WolfPack men succumbed to their third defeat in a row as they dropped a 72-66 decision to the Cascades. The WolfPack men began the season with seven consecutive wins, but they’re currently third in the Canada West Pacific Division at 7-3.

The Cascades are hot on their heels in fourth place with a 6-4 record.

Jayden Green powered the WolfPack offence with a game-high 20 points and six rebounds while Jayden Stephens added another 16 points along with four assists.

Trailing 21-10 after one quarter, the bounced back in the second though they still trailed 36-31 at half time. They were outscored 36-35 in a fairly even second half, but could not make up the deficit at the UFV Athletic Centre.

In women’s action, the WolfPack came up just short as they lost 52-48 to the Cascades.

Olena Vasylenko led all scorers with 15 points and three steals for the WolfPack, who dropped to 3-7 on the season. Morgan Eichenberger added 10 points and eight rebounds., Sydney Vollrath chipped in with nine points while Hailey Merrigan scored eight points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.

The WolfPack and Cascades will rematch Saturday evening in Abbotsford, with the women’s game scheduled for 4:00 p.m. followed by the men’s game at 6:00 p.m.

TRU will then close out the first half of the Canada West season with a game against the UNBC Timberwolves next Friday (Dec. 5) at the TCC.
