CHASE, B.C. — Police in Chase are investigating a case of arson after a suspicious fire at a house in the 500-block of First Avenue early Wednesday (Nov. 26) morning.

Police and firefighters responded to the house around 1:41 a.m. and investigators say they found evidence that the fire was deliberately set and that an accelerant was used in conjunction with an incendiary device of some kind.

In a statement, Cst. Sarah Van Wilgenburg with the Chase RCMP detachment said the occupants of the house discovered the fire after they heard a loud bang outside their home.

“Their quick actions contained the blaze before significant damage occurred to the residence or neighbouring structures,” Van Wilgenburg said, noting the investigation is being treated as arson.
