CHASE, B.C. — Police in Chase are investigating after a high school student was injured in an attempted robbery over the noon hour on Tuesday (Nov. 25) afternoon.

Chase RCMP say the attempted robbery took place in a back alley off Shuswap Avenue, near the drug store around 12:43 p.m.

According to police, the student was walking back to school after lunch when a male suspect “appeared to take notice of his watch and jewelry.”

“The suspect demanded the student hand over the items and struck him in the face,” Cst. Sarah Van Wilgenburg with the Chase RCMP Detachment said. “The student vigorously defended himself and escaped with his belongings and only minor injuries.”

The suspect is described as a tall man, standing about six-foot-three. He was wearing a black hoodie pulled tight over his head and around his face as well as sunglasses.

Van Wilgenburg says the suspect may also have minor injuries to his face after the altercation with the student.

Police are asking people who may have witnessed the incident or those with video of the area where it happened to contact the Chase RCMP at 250-679-3221 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
