KAMLOOPS — For its 45th year, the Santa Claus Parade is set for this Sunday (Nov. 23) in downtown Kamloops. Alexandra Eaket, the marketing and events coordinator for Downtown Kamloops, says this year’s theme of ‘Home for the Holidays’ draws on the recent ‘Support Canadian’ movement.

The annual parade usually draws out 60 different floats and thousands of spectators lining the streets. As usual, people can gather to wake up Santa at 3:40 p.m. and the parade will get started after that at 4:00 p.m.

“We’ll start at Second Avenue and St. Paul Street, and then we’ll go down Victoria Street until Sixth Avenue, and then the parade will end at Sixth Avenue, nothing past that,” says Eaket.

People are encouraged to make use of free parking in Lansdowne and Seymour Street parkades, and weekend free parking downtown throughout the holiday season. There will be temporary road closures for Sunday afternoon, down Second, Third and Fourth Avenues for float staging, along with Victoria Street from Second Avenue to Eighth Avenue for the actual parade route and dispersal area.

“Lots of road closures are going to be happening downtown this Sunday so we do encourage you to come early and shop local or go to a restaurant. There’s the Kamloops Christmas Market that you can go to, there’s the Festival of Trees in the Delta Hotel,” adds Eaket. “There’s lots of stuff to do downtown so you’ll be able to fill up your day pretty good.”

People can watch the parade in person along Victoria Street, using the live stream on Downtown Kamloops’ YouTube page, or by watching the live stream from inside the Paramount Theatre on the corner of Fifth Avenue and Victoria Street.
