Residential construction carries Kamloops building sector in October as busy 2025 winds down

KAMLOOPS — Residential construction carried the Kamloops building sector in October.

New numbers released by the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division show nearly $30.8 million in activity was recorded over 121 permits in October 2025, below the value of $38.1 million recorded over 116 permits during the same month in 2024.

Nearly $28.2 million of permit activity recorded in October 2025 came from residential construction in Kamloops. Notable categories five multi-family – three or more units – permits bringing in $18.7 million, four additions bringing in nearly $3.3 million, 16 duplexes/secondary suites bringing nearly $3 million and three single family dwellings bringing in nearly $2.9 million.

Year-to-date, the city has doled out 903 permits totaling nearly $327 million as of October 2025, up from nearly $315 million over 851 permits as of the same point in 2024.

Kamloops remains on pace to surpass last year’s new housing unit total as well. Permits for 68 residential units were approved in October 2025 for a year-to-date total of 713, up from 540 units approved as of October 2024.

The Kamloops construction sector had its third-busiest year on record in 2024 with $349.8 million in permits issued. Only 2022 ($415.4 million) and 2020 ($395.1 million) saw the city issue a greater value in permits.
