KAMLOOPS — The annual Rocky Mountain Rangers Food Drive is scheduled for Saturday (Nov. 8) at Real Canadian Superstore in Sahali.

Non-perishable food items will be collected from 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. inside a semi-style military truck before it is dropped off at the Kamloops Food Bank.

“Our goal is to maximize food donations, but our main focus is giving back to the community,” said Laksh Deswal, an officer cadet with the Rangers.

“We’re part of the Kamloops community and this event is a big opportunity on a human level to make a difference in somebody’s life.”

Deswal said children are invited to take a seat in the military truck.

Rangers’ Major Max Birkner said he takes pride in contributing to food security in the city, noting the drive has yielded thousands of pounds of non-perishable items for the food bank over the last decade.

“I really like getting out and getting face time with the community,” Birkner said. “So much with the Rocky Mountain Rangers, we go out on exercise and training events that are not public-facing. It’s a really good chance for us to get out and interact with the people of Kamloops in uniform.”
