KAMLOOPS — It was a return to winning ways for the TRU WolfPack women’s volleyball team as they knocked off the Saskatchewan Huskies Saturday (Nov. 1) night at the TCC.

The WolfPack bounced back after Friday’s defeat to take Saturday’s game 3-0 (25-15, 26-24, 25-17).

Keira Gent led the way with 12 kills and four service aces. Rida Erlalelitepe added 11 kills while Hail Ward chipped in with 10 kills and five aces. Faith Christensen also chipped in with nine kills on 12 attacks, and Libby Meldrum had 37 assists in just three sets.

“I think we did a much better job on first contact and put them in a little more trouble on serve, receive,” Head Coach Chad Grimm said. “[Friday] I thought we were a little too focused on hitting a target instead of swinging aggressively.”

The win moves TRU to 3-1 on the year, and they sit fourth in Canada West.

In men’s volleyball action, the WolfPack took the Huskies the distance but came up just shy in a 3-2 (25-18, 23-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12) loss.

Rookie Daniel Hitchens had 19 kills to go with four blocks and ten digs. Merritt native Alex Howard added another 11 to his Canada West leading total of 74 while Lincoln Wagner had eight through the middle.

Walker Sodaro recorded a team-high six blocks to along with 40 assists on the night.

“It hurts to lose in five but I thought the guys fought it out as best they could,”WolfPack assistant coach Reece Wilson said post-game.

Next up for the WolfPack is a showdown with the powerhouse UBC Thunderbirds on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 7 and 8) at the TCC.
